Kitchens: How
do we choose the cabinets, Knobs and pullouts while selecting the modular
Kitchens? The possibilities are endless; you can create a beach theme for a summer cottage by replacing your bathroom cabinet hardware with shell and starfish knobs, or complement a traditional kitchen with chrome or brass bin pulls on the drawers and simple matching knobs on the doors. Bright, fun knobs are a terrific way to personalize a child's bathroom, and they have the added benefit of being easy to replace when the little one outgrows them. The first thing to consider is whether you are retrofitting old cabinets or starting anew. If you are replacing old hardware, you will want to find pulls and knobs that fit or at least conceal the old holes. If this isn't possible, the old holes can be filled and sanded, and then the cabinets repainted; you should consult your cabinet manufacturer to see what is recommend for your particular cabinets. If you have new, undrilled cabinets, you are free to choose any knobs or pulls that you like. It's a good idea to take measurements for the thickness of your doors and drawers with you when you're shopping for new knobs, as sometimes the screw that comes with the knob may be too short.
Combining different materials in a kitchen fully utilizes each material's performance while adding interest to the design. Consider a cool-to-the-touch marble baking area, a butcher block-topped island, slate around the cooktop, and granite by the sink. Following
